Trip Planning

Kashmir is one of the most-asked-about trips we plan, and "how much will it cost" depends more on a few specific choices than most first-time travellers expect.
Peak summer (May–July) and the winter holiday stretch around Gulmarg's ski season see Kashmir's highest hotel and houseboat pricing, driven by demand rather than any change in what's included. Shoulder months — April, September and October — typically offer better value with still-comfortable weather and fuller sightseeing access across Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam.
A Dal Lake houseboat night is usually priced comparably to a standard hotel night of similar category, rather than at a steep premium — it's a genuinely distinctive experience without necessarily being the most expensive part of the trip. Most well-planned itineraries mix the two: hotel stays for the bulk of your time in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam, with one houseboat night built in specifically for the experience. See our Dal Lake houseboat guide for what a stay actually involves.
Our Kashmir — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg & Pahalgam package runs as a 7-day, 6-night circuit covering all four towns — a shorter 4–5 day trip (dropping one outer town, typically Sonmarg) reduces the total cost, but not the per-day rate, since transport and guide costs are largely fixed regardless of how many towns you cover.
Most Kashmir packages, including ours, include accommodation (hotel plus the houseboat night), breakfast and dinner, airport transfers, AC vehicle transport between towns, guided sightseeing and a group leader. Commonly excluded: the Gulmarg gondola ticket (sold separately in two stages), pony rides in Pahalgam and Sonmarg, skiing or snowboarding gear rental and lessons, entry fees at specific monuments, drinks and personal expenses, and travel insurance.
The Gulmarg gondola is the single most significant optional cost on a standard Kashmir itinerary, since both stages are ticketed separately and prices can change seasonally — see our Gulmarg travel guide for how the two-stage system works. Pony rides in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley and at Sonmarg's Thajiwas Glacier are typically modest, fixed-rate local costs paid on the spot. Winter travellers planning to ski or snowboard should budget separately for gear rental and lessons, which aren't part of standard sightseeing packages.
As with most of our packages, per-person cost generally comes down with larger groups sharing vehicle and guide costs, and rises with hotel category — Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam all offer a meaningful range from standard to premium stays. Houseboat category (Deluxe vs Super Deluxe-style tiers) works similarly.
Every price on our site is a starting-from figure — the only way to get an exact cost is a quote for your specific dates, group size and stay category. Share these through our Custom Quote form, or see our complete Kashmir travel guide if you're still finalising which towns and experiences to include.
