Vietnam has become an increasingly popular short-haul international trip for Indian travellers, thanks to a straightforward visa process and a currency that stretches further than most South East Asian alternatives.

E-visa process for Indians Indian passport holders can apply for Vietnam's e-visa online ahead of travel, uploading a passport photo and passport-bio-page scan. Visa rules and validity periods are set by the Vietnamese government and do change from time to time, so always check the current process and processing time on Vietnam's official immigration portal before booking flights.

Best time to visit North Vietnam (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay) is most pleasant October–April, while Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An) has a slightly different rhythm — broadly, the November–April window works well across most of the country, avoiding the heaviest monsoon rains.

A suggested 6–7 day route Days 1–2: Hanoi's Old Quarter, French Quarter and a day trip to the Perfume Pagoda or Ninh Binh. Days 3–4: Overnight cruise in Ha Long Bay among its limestone karsts. Days 5–7: Fly to Da Nang for the Marble Mountains, the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills, and a day trip to Hoi An's old town and lantern-lit riverside.

Currency and budget The Vietnamese dong's exchange rate makes everyday costs — food, local transport, and mid-range hotels — noticeably lower than in much of South East Asia, though flights and cruise add-ons are worth budgeting for separately.
