Why they're spread so widely Unlike the Char Dham circuit, which is a single Himalayan loop, the Jyotirlingas span the length of the country from Gujarat to Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand — a reflection of Shiva worship's reach across regional traditions rather than a single unified pilgrimage route.

Realistic groupings for a trip Most travellers tackle the Jyotirlingas in regional clusters rather than attempting all twelve at once: Maharashtra's three (Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar, Grishneshwar) pair naturally with a Nashik-Aurangabad-Ellora circuit; Gujarat's two (Somnath, Nageshwar/Dwarka) fit a Saurashtra coastal trip; and Kedarnath is most commonly visited as part of the wider Char Dham Yatra rather than alone.
