The White Rann of Kutch — a vast, flat salt desert that turns an almost surreal white under moonlight — hosts Rann Utsav, a months-long festival built around camping, culture and the desert itself, centred on the village of Dhordo. It's a genuinely different Gujarat experience from the Dwarka-Somnath temple circuit most Indian travellers associate with the state.
Based on currently available information, the 2026-27 season at Dhordo runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027 — though we've seen at least one other source give a slightly different closing date, so treat early November to early March as the reliable window and confirm exact dates on the official Rann Utsav booking site before locking in non-refundable travel.
The White Rann is at its most striking under a full moon, when the salt flat seems to glow. Full-moon windows reported for this season include roughly 22-25 November 2026 and 21-24 December 2026 (one other source lists slightly different dates, so check the official calendar) — these nights sell out first, so book well ahead if a full-moon visit is the priority.
Rann Utsav's Tent City, run in partnership with Gujarat Tourism, sits about three hours from Bhuj and offers a structured camping experience — tents, cultural performances, local Kutchi handicrafts, and organised access to the salt desert itself. A two to three-night stay is a sensible starting point rather than a rushed single night. Reported tent pricing (from a travel blog, so treat as indicative only) runs roughly ₹15,000-30,000 per night for premium tents — confirm current rates directly on the official booking site, since blog-reported prices age quickly.
Bhuj is the nearest airport and rail hub, roughly a 2-3 hour drive from Dhordo. A specific entry permit for Dhordo is required given the area's border proximity — this is typically arranged as part of a Tent City booking rather than something you sort out separately.
Kutch and Rann Utsav sit in a genuinely different part of Gujarat from the Dwarka-Somnath-Gir circuit our Gujarat package covers — Kutch is in the state's north, while Dwarka, Somnath and Gir are in the Saurashtra peninsula further south, a long drive apart rather than an easy add-on. Rann Utsav isn't currently part of our fixed Gujarat package, but our team can build a customised Kutch itinerary around the festival dates — share your preferred travel window through our Custom Quote form and we'll help you plan around it.
