The Statue of Unity, at Kevadia in Gujarat, is the world's tallest statue — a 182-metre tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel standing on an island in the Narmada River, roughly twice the height of the Statue of Liberty. It's become one of India's most-visited modern landmarks since opening, and a genuinely different Gujarat experience from the temple-focused Dwarka-Somnath-Gir circuit most Indian travellers associate with the state.
182 metres — a figure chosen deliberately to mark the 182 assembly seats in the Gujarat state legislature. It's currently recognised as the tallest statue in the world, well ahead of other major statues globally.
Pricing is reported inconsistently across sources, so treat any single figure with caution and confirm on the official booking site before you travel. We've seen figures ranging from a basic adult entry around ₹60-120 up to roughly ₹1,030 for an "express entry" tier that includes priority access to the viewing gallery — a platform at roughly chest height on the statue, giving a panoramic view over the Narmada and the surrounding Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges. The viewing gallery access is generally bundled into the higher-tier tickets rather than the basic entry fee, so check exactly what's included before you buy.
Reported hours are roughly 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the site reportedly closed on Mondays — confirm both the hours and the closure day on the official site before planning your visit around a specific date, since this is exactly the kind of detail that changes with season or maintenance schedules.
Vadodara is the main gateway, roughly 85-90 km from Kevadia (the town nearest the statue):
- By train: Indian Railways runs trains from Vadodara Junction directly to Ekta Nagar station, the stop nearest the statue — reportedly several departures a day, with fares from roughly ₹130 up to ₹1,100 depending on class, and a journey of around 1 hour 20 minutes. This is generally the cheapest, most convenient option. - By road: A taxi or private car takes roughly the same 1 hour 20-25 minutes, with reported fares in the ₹1,100-1,400 range one-way. - By bus: State buses run to Kevadia, with autos covering the final short stretch to the statue itself.
The Statue of Unity sits within a larger development, and most visitors combine it with at least one or two of the following on the same trip:
- Sardar Sarovar Dam — the major dam on the Narmada River, visible from parts of the statue complex. - Valley of Flowers (Kevadia) — a landscaped garden area, distinct from the more famous Uttarakhand trek of the same name. - Jungle Safari Park — a wildlife park within the Kevadia development. - Cactus Garden and Ekta Nursery — smaller, lower-key stops if you have extra time.
Given the range of attractions clustered around the statue, a full day, or even an overnight stay in Kevadia, lets you see more than a rushed half-day visit would.
The Statue of Unity sits in a genuinely different part of Gujarat from the Dwarka-Somnath-Gir circuit our Gujarat package covers — Kevadia is in the state's east-central region near Vadodara, while Dwarka, Somnath and Gir are in the Saurashtra peninsula, a long drive away rather than an easy add-on. The Statue of Unity isn't currently part of our fixed Gujarat package, but our team can build a customised itinerary that includes Kevadia, either as a standalone trip or combined with other parts of the state — share your preferred dates through our Custom Quote form.
